In addition to 150 jack-o-lanterns and a variety of whimsical scarecrows, Pumpkin Glow at Hershey Gardens will feature something new this year: live insects, including tarantulas. The annual family friendly, non-scary Halloween event at Hershey Gardens will be held October 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Please note, the indoor tropical Butterfly Atrium will be closed during Pumpkin Glow.)
New this year is a live creature exhibit, featuring Goliath tarantulas, giant scorpions, a giant centipede, a jack-o-lantern filled with hissing cockroaches and large friendly caterpillars that visitors can hold. The creature exhibit will be on display in the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory during Pumpkin Glow.
Outside, a mile-long path will be adorned with whimsical and artistically carved pumpkins. Friendly scarecrows, some of which come to life, will be greeting visitors along the way, while kids can trick-or-treat and collect candy at eight stations along a mile-long path. Youngsters are encouraged to bring flashlights and come dressed in costume; they also can listen to a scarecrow tell a special Halloween story.
Students from Lebanon County Career and Technical Center’s Culinary and Pastry Arts program also will be giving pumpkin-carving demonstrations. Seasonal displays featuring a variety of gourds and pumpkins round out the fall event. Refreshments will be for sale.
